**Tigers Predicted to Land $120 Million Three-Time All-Star, Two-Time World Series Champ to Upgrade Offense**
The Detroit Tigers had a rough end to their playoff run, falling to the Seattle Mariners in five games during the ALDS. A key issue for Detroit was the lack of run support, making it clear that their top priority this offseason is bolstering their offensive lineup.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes the Tigers can find that offensive upgrade in a player they missed out on last year: Alex Bregman.
“The Detroit Tigers offered Bregman a six-year, $171.5 million contract, contrasting with Boston’s more flexible deal,” Kline wrote. “That sort of framework ought to appeal more to the 31-year-old this time around. Detroit president Scott Harris badly needs to stretch beyond his comfort zone and go for it. Tarik Skubal’s impending free agency in 2027 ratchets up the pressure in a palpable way.”
Bregman also shares a connection with Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, with whom he won a World Series in Houston. Kline adds, “The Tigers aren’t far off from the upper echelon of contention. Bregman can move the needle, and Detroit needs him more than Boston, frankly.”
In the 2023 season, Bregman slashed .273/.360/.462 with an .821 OPS, tallying 28 doubles, 18 home runs, and 62 RBIs over 114 games. Should he remain healthy for a full season, Bregman could be the offensive spark Detroit desperately needs, while also providing top-tier defense at third base.
Currently, the Tigers have Zach McKinstry at the hot corner. While McKinstry is an All-Star and Silver Slugger, he doesn’t quite match Bregman’s impact. If Detroit makes the smart move, they will find a new position for McKinstry to maximize their lineup.
Combining Bregman with Tarik Skubal—who may have his final season with Detroit in 2027—could be the best way for the Tigers to make one last strong push for the World Series. However, the incumbent Boston Red Sox are expected to fight hard to retain their superstar.
