Way back in my country DJ days, one song was so popular each holiday season—far ahead of any other in requests—that I had to limit it to once a week on my shift. I’d let callers decide whether to play it right away or save it for later. I always had it ready to go, because they always wanted to hear it immediately, which at least spared me the rest of that week. It has accordingly lodged in my poor brain for decades.
So, while it’s early to start playing holiday songs, snow has fallen and Black Friday sale announcements arrive by email hourly. We begin this season with the (sort of) immortal words of Elmo and Patsy:

### Grandma Got Run Over by a Reinsdorf
**(Chorus)**
Grandma got run over by a Reinsdorf
Walking home from our place Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Reinsdorfed
But as for every Sox fan, we believe.
**(Verse 1)**
She’d been drinking campfire eggnog
And it caused a fever dream
Of a bright and sunny future
For her favorite baseball team.
When we found her Christmas morning
At the scene of the attack
She had “No Way” stamped on her forehead
And incriminating greed marks on her back.
**(Chorus)**
Grandma got run over by a Reinsdorf
Walking home from our place Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Reinsdorfed
But as for every Sox fan, we believe.
**(Verse 2)**
Now we’re all so proud of grandpa
He’s been taking this so well
See him watching old White Sox games
Yelling “Reinsdorf, sell! sell! sell!”
It’s not Christmas without grandma
All the family’s in Sox gear
But her fatal optimism’s
Given way to abject fear.
*(So much fear!)*
**(Chorus)**
Grandma got run over by a Reinsdorf
Walking home from our place Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Reinsdorfed
But as for every Sox fan, we believe.
**(Verse 3)**
Now the goose is on the table
As we talk of better days
When the Sox will have new owners
Who care how the team will play.
I’ve warned all our White Sox fan friends
Santa has no presents for you yet
But perhaps some future season
Will be one without regret.
**(Chorus)**
Grandma got run over by a Reinsdorf
Walking home from our place Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Reinsdorfed
But as for every Sox fan, we believe.
*(Repeat chorus.)*

Here’s to hoping for better days ahead—for the team and all of us White Sox fans. Happy holidays!
