Marten Transport: Not Everything That Seems Cheap Warrants A Buy
Nov. 16, 2025 3:07 AM ET
Marten Transport, Ltd. (MRTN) Stock Analysis by Daniel Javier
Marten Transport Ltd. remained weak during Q3 2025 amid stubborn inflation and excess capacity in the truckload market. Despite these challenges, its improved efficiency and high liquidity assure us of its sustainability and dividend longevity.
At first glance, Marten Transport’s valuation appears cheap; however, there are no growth prospects to justify an upside. Technically, the stock remains bearish with a continuation of the downtrend despite recent overselling.
Nearly three months after covering Marten Transport, Ltd. (MRTN) for the first time, its value has already dropped by 18%. This decline justifies my cautious stance, as I rated it a hold despite the significant plunge.
About the Author
I have been working in the logistics sector for almost two decades and have been involved in stock investing and macroeconomic analysis for nearly ten years. Currently, I focus on ASEAN and NYSE/NASDAQ stocks, particularly in banking, telecommunications, logistics, and hotels.
Since 2014, I have been trading on the Philippine stock market, with a focus on banking, telco, and retail sectors. A colleague encouraged me to engage in the stock market to diversify my portfolio rather than placing all my savings in banks and properties. This was also the period when insurance companies became very popular in the Philippines.
Initially, I invested in popular blue-chip companies. Over time, my investments expanded across different industries and market capitalizations. Some stocks I hold for retirement, while others I trade for profits.
In 2020, I also entered the US market about a year after discovering Seeking Alpha. Initially, I used the trading account of my New York and California-based cousin, acting as his personal broker. This experience familiarized me with the US market before I decided to open my own account.
I decided to write for Seeking Alpha to share insights and broaden my knowledge, having traded on the US market for four years. Similar to the ASEAN market, I hold stocks in US banks, hotels, shipping, and logistics companies.
Since discovering Seeking Alpha in 2018, I have been leveraging analyses here to compare them with those I conduct in the Philippine market.
