One of my favorite handhelds for PS2 games is back for under $200, but it might vanish before Black Friday

Posted on 2025 年 11 月 17 日 by admin

Yes, I did call the Razer Edge an “oddball handheld with an off-putting price tag” in my original review. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t be both a killer device for emulating beefier retro consoles like the PS2 and well worth grabbing when it’s under $200. A new wave of refurbished stock at Amazon is making the latter happen ahead of Black Friday.

Over at Amazon, you can currently grab a refurbished Razer Edge in “excellent” condition for just $179.95 using an on-screen coupon. This discount brings the portable gaming device to a lower price point than many of my best retro handheld picks, despite it boasting a Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 chipset that outpaces even some newer premium options.

Designed to be one of the best handheld gaming options for streaming and mobile games, the Razer Edge packs quite a punch. In the past, I’ve used it as an alternative to the PlayStation Portal and even tried running Play Store apps on it instead of a phone. Those are all valid use cases thanks to its Android operating system, but I firmly believe its real strengths lie in emulation.

That said, even if the Razer Edge were still available new, it would find itself outclassed by my current crowned PS2 handheld king—the Ayn Odin 2. This 6-inch Android portable holds a slight advantage with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which helps it emulate virtually all the best retro consoles out there.

However, the Razer Edge feels like the better value option when available for under $200. At roughly half the price of the Odin, you’re getting comparable performance with Dreamcast, N64, and PS2 games. Plus, you get perks like an AMOLED display and a swappable Kishi V2 Pro controller.

The AMOLED screen especially might appeal if you’re used to vibrant gaming monitors and other high-quality displays, though the device’s long 20:9 aspect ratio can feel a bit unusual. The removable gamepad, on the other hand, is a universally beneficial feature. Unlike most handhelds locked to a specific button layout, the Razer Edge supports many of the best mobile controller options, giving you more flexibility.

As for the actual gaming experience, I’d honestly say the Razer Edge is one of the best portable ways to play PlayStation 2 classics. I’ve spent plenty of time playing *Final Fantasy 12* on the handheld—a game released late in the PS2’s lifecycle—with solid performance and visuals. Notably, this includes running the game at 4× native resolution without any slowdown, meaning you don’t have to sacrifice the fancy visual enhancements that modern emulators like AetherSX2 or PCSX2 provide.

That said, the Edge isn’t without faults, and I still stand by my view that it’s a bit too odd at full price. I would absolutely keep it on your radar while it’s under $200, though. If you missed out on snagging one during the last stock run, I wouldn’t personally risk waiting until Black Friday.

It’s also worth noting that since the Razer Edge is now discontinued, you won’t see any new stock listings down the line. This could very well be your last chance to grab what is unquestionably a great handheld for PS2 emulation.
