Kazakhstan’s rising tennis star, Alexander Bublik, continues his phenomenal run in 2025 by clinching his fourth title of the year at the Hangzhou Open. In an intense final, Bublik defeated French qualifier Valentin Royer 7-6(4), 7-6(4), showcasing his nerves of steel and exceptional serving skills.
### A Record-Breaking Performance
Bublik’s victory at Hangzhou was marked by a remarkable feat—he became only the second player this year, after Taylor Fritz, to win an ATP title without dropping serve throughout the tournament. This latest triumph also marks the eighth tour-level title of his career and his first on outdoor hard courts.
### The Final Match
In his first-ever meeting with Royer, Bublik faced a challenging start but managed to prevail in both sets via tie-breaks. The final lasted nearly two hours, with Royer delivering 21 aces. Despite the pressure, Bublik saved the only two break points he faced and maintained an impressive 81% win rate on his first serve.
### Journey to the Title
Bublik’s path in Hangzhou was not without its challenges. He survived a tough opening match against Aleksandar Vukic, bouncing back from a first-set loss to win 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-4. Following that, he secured comfortable straight-set victories over Dalibor Svrcina and Wu Yibing before facing Royer in the final.
### Four Titles in 2025 and Climbing the Rankings
With the Hangzhou Open victory, Bublik secured his fourth title this year, trailing only world number one Carlos Alcaraz, who has claimed seven titles in 2025. Earlier in the season, Bublik captured trophies at Halle, Gstaad, and Kitzbuehel. His current win-loss record for the year stands at 31-17, approaching his career-best match wins of 35 set in 2021.
This latest success is expected to propel Bublik to a career-high ATP ranking of world No. 16.
### Unique 2025 Milestone
Highlighting his versatility, Bublik became only the fourth player in 2025 to reach tour-level finals on all three surfaces—hard, clay, and grass—joining the ranks of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Alexander Zverev.
While a Grand Slam title remains elusive, Bublik’s momentum and record-breaking performances in 2025 indicate that he is firmly establishing himself as one of the key contenders on the ATP Tour.
