SAN ANGELO UT Tyler volleyball will keep marching on in the LSC Tournament as the Patriots took down St. Mary’s 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21) in their quarterfinal match on Thursday. The Patriots got double digit kills from Jackie Velzis, Autumn Perry, Kailey Manes, and Alyson Robbins as the team hit . 207 for the match while Saige Rivera and Riley Clinton each dished out over 20 assists. That Patriots offense got off to a humming start in set one, rolling to a 6-1 lead as Velzis ripped off three kills in the stretch and the Patriots put up a pair of blocks, including one solo from Perry. The Rattlers closed the lead to four at 10-6, but a 7-0 run from UT Tyler on the back of three kills from Manes and another from Velzis pushed the lead back out to 11. Down the stretch, Perry connected on two kills of her own while Robbins and Faith Wilkins each added one as they took a 25-16 first set. The second set saw a flip at the start, as the Rattlers got out to their own 6-2 lead. The Patriots answered quickly, going on a 4-0 run as Wilkins tallied another kill and Clinton put up an ace. The two teams battled tightly through the middle of the set as Rivera added two straight aces while Velzis added another two kills. Another one from Velzis to make it 19-17 got the Patriots rolling again, with Robbins adding two more kills as the Patriots cruised to a 25-21 set and a 2-0 lead. The third set would be a tightly contested one, as the teams faced six different ties on their way to a 10-10 start. Kills from Perry, Sydney Atkinson, and Robbins would give them a 14-12 lead before they stretched it out to 18-14. The Rattlers would fight back, closing the set on an 11-5 run to force a fourth set at 25-23. The fourth set saw another close start, with the two teams seeing seven different ties on their way to 9-9. That last tie at 9-9 came from a kill from Atkinson, starting a 4-0 run capped off by a Manes kill. The Patriots would lead at 16-12 as Robbins and Perry chipped in another kill each, and they would continue to lead at 20-16 as the offense continued to roll. The Rattlers had one final fight in them, cutting the lead down to 20-19, but Robbins and Manes each hammered home one final kill while Wilkins and Rivera chipped in one more ace, with Rivera winning the match on her ace at 25-21. Jackie Velzis led the team with 14 kills on a . 400 percentage, and Manes led the way in percentage with 10 kills on a blistering . 625 mark. Rivera and Clinton combined for 43 assists while chipping in on five aces and 18 digs. Anna Arceneaux and Emma Vazquez totaled 19 and 21 digs. UT Tyler will face Angelo State in the semifinals at 6: 30 p. m. on Friday back inside the Junell Center-Stephens Arena.
