The family of a man killed by a train on Tuesday night has started a GoFundMe to help cover the unexpected costs. The fundraiser comes in the wake of the death of Luis Javier Marrero Muniz, who was killed on Tuesday night when he was struck by an Amtrak train near Landis. Luis Marrero’s brother, Daly Marrero, created the GoFundMe in an effort “to be able to give him a dignified burial, since it is a tragedy that no one expected and we do not have the funds for his burial.” “Javi was (a) brother, father, son, uncle, nephew and a good husband. All those who knew him, know that he was a helpful person. He always had the best disposition to help his neighbor, Javier was a humble man, but sadly life took him away from us,” wrote Daly Marrero in the GoFundMe. The GoFundMe is available in both Spanish and English at gofundme. com/f/please-help-us-give-my-brother-a-proper-burial-service? attribution_id=sl: 44eb4fd8-4001-40ed-87ac-1f98a9ec4c78&utm_campaign=natman_sharesheet_dash&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link. The family has set a goal of $7,000, with $3,000 having been raised as of Friday afternoon. According to his obituary, posted by Life and Legacy Funerals and Cremations in Indian Trail, Marrero was a native of Toa Baca in Puerto Rico who moved to Charlotte later in life. The obituary states that the family is holding an evening funeral service on Nov. 29 and a midday service on Nov. 30. Luis Marrero was killed at approximately 9 p. m. on Tuesday, when he was struck by a train while walking along the tracks. According to a release from the Landis Police Department, he was hit by an Amtrak train near the 1500 block of Pinnacle Way Drive, killing him. Deputies and emergency personnel located Muniz on the track behind Haskell’s Hardware, in the 1400 block of Pinnacle Way Drive. During the ensuing sheriff’s office’s investigation, detectives learned that officers with the Landis Police Department had reportedly responded to Muniz’s residence for a domestic disturbance earlier. The caller told the Landis officers that Muniz was intoxicated and was last seen jumping over the guard rail and onto the tracks, according to the release.
