**Councilman Defends Longstanding Turkey and Ham Donations to City Employees**
In response to recent comments regarding the Mayor and the City of Marksville distributing turkeys to City employees, I would like to clarify a few important points.
First and foremost, it is illegal for the City to use taxpayer money to give bonuses or gifts to City employees. The turkeys distributed are not purchased with public funds.
The business owners who donate money to purchase the turkeys do so not for recognition, but to show their genuine appreciation to the City employees who keep essential services running smoothly. These hardworking individuals ensure that our water flows, our ditches remain clean, and our grass is mowed.
I have served as a city councilman for 15 years, and Mayor Lemoine has been Mayor for the same length of time. For all of those 15 years, we have distributed turkeys to City employees at Thanksgiving and hams at Christmas. This tradition is made possible entirely through the generosity of Marksville’s business owners.
Importantly, these donors do not seek recognition. This is why their names are not publicly mentioned. Their sole intention is to say “THANK YOU” to the dedicated City employees.
To you, Ms. Marie C. Preston: Have you ever taken the time to thank City employees for their hard work?
